PokerStars Review

PokerStars is the world’s largest online poker site on the Internet. The number of players during the peak hours of the day reaches more than 100,000. As you can imagine, due to the high volume of traffic this site generates, there is a great selection of poker games to choose from in the PokerStars lobby.

A unique feature of this site is that you can play against some of the biggest names in poker. Team PokerStars Pros represent some of the best tournament and cash game players in the world, and include the likes of WSOP ME 200 Champion Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Isaac Haxton, Jonathan Duhamel, along with dozens of other great and young tournament pros.

Cash Games & Tournaments

At PokerStars, you can expect to find a wide choice of games, limits, tables and opponents at any time. The number of cash tables and tournaments is unthinkable across many different poker variants, including Texas Hold’em, Omaha and Stud with fixed-limit, pot-limit and no-limit.

In the limit section there are games from $0.02$/0.04 to $500/$1,000, the no limit tables, where most of the traffic is focused around, ranges from $0.01/$0.02 to $200/$400. So, there are games to suit everyone’s bankroll and ability level.

PokerStars runs thousands of daily tournaments. Every weekend they host two legendary tournaments, the Sunday Warm-Up, a $215 buy-in tourney with a $500k guarantee, and the Sunday Million, a $215 buy-in event with a $1,000,000 guarantee, with hundreds of satellites to win a seat into them.

PokerStars is also home to the world’s largest poker tournament series, the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), a series of online tournaments in which players compete in a variety of different poker games with millions of dollars in cash prizes.

In addition, they are the organizers of the largest series of offline tourneys in many regions around the the world: European Poker Tour (EPT), Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT), PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), World Cup of Poker, etc. This has helped the poker site grow in emerging markets, and you can expect to find players from all corners of the globe.

PokerStars isn’t the organizer of the World Series of Poker, but PokerStars sends more players to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) each and every year than of the other poker sites put together.

PokerStars has more than adequate support for their players, which can be reached at support@pokerstars.com 24/7. Before contacting the support team, we recommend first checking out the FAQ section on their website, which aims to answer all frequently asked questions about playing poker at PokerStars.

Software & Graphics

PokerStars interface is designed for the player’s convenience, with software that is reliable and functional. You can expect to find all the standard features you’d get at any quality poker site, including the ability to resize tables, upload avatars, game filters, etc. PokerStars supports most of the popular HUDs (there is a list of accepted and prohibited software available on their website.)

The good news is that the PokerStars client for playing poker is compatible with Windows and Mac systems in fact PokerStars was the first poker site to offer a dedicate Mac client. They also have a mobile poker app for iPhone, iPad, and other popular tablet devices, which makes PokerStars an ideal place for online poker regardless of your location.

VIP Program

Like many poker rooms, PokerStars has a VIP program, which uses its own points system. Players earn poker points in real money poker games to determine his/her VIP level. Each level has its own perks but the main benefit of levelling up through the different VIP tiers is to accumulate more FPPs. Upon reaching Supernova VIP status level, you can exchange FPP for cash bonuses, which is the equivalent of around 30% rakeback. Supernova Elite is the equivalent of 60% rakeback.

Unfortunately, after Black Friday took place in 2011, PokerStars was forced out of the American market by the U.S. Department of Justice, so we suggest that our readers from the United States check out our reviews of US-friendly rooms.
